Gary Ladd Photo Exploration of Lake Powell: Houseboat Trip—Lens on the Lake

Date: March 21-27, 2010 (6 nights/7 days)
Instructors: Gary Ladd
Fee: $1500, Single Supplement: $350

Over the years, Gary Ladd has demonstrated time after time just how photogenic Lake Powell can be. Here’s your opportunity to tag along with its premier photographer as he visits all his favorite locations at the best time of day for beautiful pictures. Gary has been exploring the lake since 1975 and has been leading photo houseboat trips for Arizona Highways and other groups for over 20 years—so you know he knows where to go and what to shoot! If you have ever thought about exploring this amazing lake that has been so little appreciated for what it offers photographers, this may be just the trip you’ve been waiting for!

Houseboats are a perfect way to get to Gary’s favorite photogenic spots. Travel, dine and sleep in comfort while experiencing wild Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. Between land-based photography sessions you can experience the magnificent scenery from the comfort of a couch in the lounge or from the upper deck but always keep your eyes peeled for unexpected opportunities along shore. We stop for photo-ops!

Gary chose November to launch his first GCFS houseboat photo workshop because the summer crowds have disappeared, the most desirable campsites are available and the fall colors are in full swing in the side canyons. Also, the fall days are often calm, perhaps giving us a chance to paddle into a slot canyon or two with the sit-on-top kayaks we’ll carry with us.
